Dear Friends,
For those who are fortunate enough to have the resources to take advantage of student travel, the experiences are unforgettable. From making history come alive and exposure to cultural differences, to leadership training and peer bonding, travel outside one’s community is a valuable learning opportunity.
I have personally seen the transformative power of student travel. We never visited New York City as a family while I was growing up in Missouri, but the privilege of explorative tours in seventh grade, twelfth grade, and again in college led me to make my home in the Big Apple. The diversity, energy, wealth of opportunity, and proliferation of the arts inspired me. Travel through school programs and medical mission trips to Mexico, Nicaragua, and Bolivia have helped my brother to focus his career goals on rural/urban underserved medicine. He now hopes to participate in Doctors Without Borders. First-hand discovery has had an extraordinary impact on me and my family.
Unfortunately, travel can also be cost-prohibitive and not all youth are able to expand their horizons with educational trips. It is my delight to run my first marathon in support of SYTA Youth Foundation. Your donation to this growing organization will provide deserving students/youth with the financial resources necessary to join their peers on these exciting adventures.
